Halloween Safety Tips

Halloween is right around the corner. It is a fun night filled with costumes, candy, and all kinds of fun. Here are a few reminders that will keep you and your children safe come Halloween night.

·       Dress your child appropriately. If the weather is cold, add a jacket or long-sleeved shirt with your child’s clothes. Comfortable shoes are also necessary as your children will be doing a lot of walking.
·       Make sure your child’s costume fits properly and does not drag on the ground. That way they do not trip and fall on the concrete or gravel.
·       Use face paint instead of masks so that your child’s vision is not obstructed.
·       Go trick or treating with your children or have them go with another trusted adult.
·       If children are out by themselves, have them stick to nearby neighborhoods and have them carry a cell phone for emergencies.
·       Always look both ways before crossing streets. This goes if you are driving or walking to your Halloween destinations. Kids are trick or treating all night long and you need to be extra careful watching out for children and cars.
·       Walk on sidewalks when possible or as far off the road as possible, facing traffic. Avoid walking in the middle of the road or down alleys.
·       Examine all the treats your children receive before they consume them. Limit the amount of candy your children eat at one time so they do not get sick from eating too much sugar.
·       If your child has any allergies, be extra vigilant when going through their candy.
·       Remove face paint before bed to prevent skin irritation.

Have a wonderful and safe Halloween!
